Do you need our help? Things to check before you call

If your boiler system isn’t working, or you think it's not working properly, don’t panic. If you check these these things before you call you might be able to resolve your problem quickly on your own:

1. Gas Supply

• If you have natural gas, verify that your gas is on. If you have an LP boiler, make sure you have fuel in your tank.
• There is a gas shut-off on your boiler: make sure that it is turned on.

2. Check Your Thermostat

• Make sure at least one of your thermostat is set to “On” and in the “Heat” mode, and the desired temperature is set higher than the current room temperature.
• If your thermostats have batteries, change them now, and try to initiate heat again.

3. Check the Power

• Check your circuit breaker to ensure that you have not had a nuisance trip and your heat system does have power.
• Check your boiler switch to make sure it is “On”. This is typically an older style toggle switch and may or may not have a Red cover plate.

4. Distribution System
Perhaps you have had a water leak on the distribution side of your boiler. You can try removing air from the system to get you going, but you should also consider the source of the air or water leak.

• Is a section of your baseboard not heating? It may be air-bound. If you have radiator bleed valves try removing this excess air.
• Is the water level in your boiler too low? There should be 12 - 15 psi on the heating side of your boiler. If there is not try adding water to your system through your system water feed valve.
• If you have zone valves, and you boiler is warm, but you house is not, many zone valve can be manually opened to temporarily allow heat to flow into the zone.

5. Venting

• Only if you have a modern sidewall vented boiler, check the termination outdoor to ensure that it is free of ice, snow, or other obstructions.
