Ductless Mini Split Tune-up Checklist

To ensure that your mini split heat pump is both trouble free and at peak efficiency you’ll need to have it maintained properly. A ductless heat pump system tune-up will vary based on the specific types and configurations of your system, but a common checklist includes:

  • Initial Inspection and Test Operation:
    • Inspect both the indoor and outdoor units. Ensure that they are properly mounted, level, and secure.
    • Inspect the refrigerant lines and the refrigerant line insulation. Ensure that refrigerant lines are properly secured.
    • Test operate the system in both heating and cooling mode to observe and operating maintenance issues.
  • Indoor Unit Checks:
    • Test wired thermostat (if used) and remote control operation. Replace any remote control batteries as needed.
    • Inspect condensate piping and condensate removal system and any condensate pumps.
    • Inspect the indoor units and filters for dirt or debris and clean as necessary.
    • Examine the indoor blower systems in ducted systems. Change air filter for ducted systems.
  • Outdoor Unit Checks:
    • Check the outdoor safety disconnect
    • Check the outdoor unit to ensure that it is properly mounted, secure, and set in a way to prevent snow or ice accumulation during winter operation.
    • Examine the outdoor unit blower.
    • Inspect the outdoor unit coil for damage or anything that might obstruct airflow and clean as necessary.
  • Complete Operation Test:
    • Start-up system and test operation.
    • Test the operation of each indoor unit in both heating and cooling mode.
    • Check for appropriate temperature changes across indoor and outdoor coils.
    • Check and note outdoor unit amperage draw.
  • Clean-up: We'll clean up our work areas and make sure everything is neat and tidy before we leave.
  • Tune-up Report: We'll explain our work and document any potential problems or recommended repairs.
